Looking after your new Taimate Bull.

Congratulations you are now the proud owner of a Taimate bull.

Here are some tips for caring for your new bull.

Your bull has been run in a mob his entire life and so needs company when he first arrives. Ideally a couple of cows or some steers in the yards to greet him when he gets off the truck.

Handle him quietly and don’t rush him.

Young bulls are still growing, some fresh feed and some hay will maintain their growth patterns and help them settle in.

Taimate bulls are accustomed to being handled with dogs. But NOT inside yards.

In gateways give him time to study the situation.

When walking amongst him, speak to him in a loud voice.

Never hit the bull without a verbal warning.

Never use an electric prodder.

Never “poke” the bull. This causes kicking.

When bull comes out of cows he should be drenched and put on good feed to help rebuild condition, this will help to settle bull.

The less noise the better.

A QUIET TEMPERAMENT is highly heritable. This leads to quicker finishing cattle- easier to handle- more profit- more pleasure in the working environment.
